Running (Success!)

Success! Now I just have to run the race.

On August 1 I announced a fundraiser: a friend and I will run a half-marathon in September, so 13.1 miles, and we hoped to raise $13,100 for the Kamala Harris campaign.

I checked in a week later, and to my surprise we had already reached and surpassed the goal. Hundreds of people made donations, totalling $29,470. So you very quickly more than doubled the goal!

Governor Tim Walz, who is a runner, had just joined the vice-president on the ticket. So I proposed a second stage of the fundraiser, in his honor: $39,300, as three half marathons times 1000, our two plus — notionally — one of the governor’s past ones.

And again, you responded. I checked in after five days this time. A couple hundred of you wrote, reporting $12,530 of new donations. I wrote some of you back, and I am grateful to all of you.

This means an even $42,000 of donations, meeting and surpassing the goal!

(In fact it was more, since in both rounds some people donated but did not disclose the amount).

Thank you all very much! I will think of you as I go running (ha, jogging) today.

Of course, everyone (who is a US citizen) should feel free to keep donating!

But for our little fundraiser, I am issuing this appreciative victory declaration.

And please consider other things you can do (more on that soon), such as phone-banking, canvassing, and reminding others to check their registration and to vote.

PS: a few more contributions came in today, after publication of this, so we actually reached $43125.
