I LOVE your On Freedom book. My sister sent me the illustrated On Tyranny too and I had to put down On Freedom to read that. I will take back with the second half of On Freedom soon. I posted about On Freedom on my FB feed. And I learned of my friends’ parents knew your parents for years from Quaker gatherings…small world I say!

Anyway, let us know when you are in Europe. I am happy to report that the American Library of Paris has both these books of yours (and likely others). I had mentioned your books to one of my American friends here who later told me he took them out of the library that same afternoon! There are so many truly powerful messages in them - I am still digesting and getting new energies and resolve from them.

Thank you!

I admire you trudging through those wilderness areas especially Texas. I hope you educate those populations but am sorry you can’t include Buffalo NY in your itinerary.

I’m studying On Freedom whole trudging through Black Earth with Bloodlands next.

Enjoy! Enjoy!

Wish I could attend at least one, but am afraid I'll have to join all of you in spirit.

I almost never set aside a book I'm reading to start another, but I'm doing that now with "On Freedom." I do love the parts about Havel, Michnik, and Krzysztof Michalski. A few days ago I ordered "An Uncanny Era: Conversations between Václav Havel and Adam Michnik," which is to arrive this coming Monday. There are so many good books cited in the notes!

We finally had our first cool front overnight. I will think of you and everyone who attends as I'm also enjoying this cool weather.

I'm sure I was on firmer ground when I read Professor Snyder's histories, as history was my major long ago at university. I'm also working my way through "On Freedom", and I realized how little I know about philosophy. I've resolved to read some of the foundational works cited in Dr. Snyder's book. (At least that's the plan now).

You'll be at the events in spirit, Rose. By the way, did you catch this Livestream on Yout Tube last night - "Get out the Vote for Ukraine" featuring Tim Snyder, Liev Shcreiber and Ivanna Sakhno? If not: https://www.youtube.com/live/5G5WOC94n0Y?si=iFrV4yySp1GwTcKy

See you in a week from Saturday! I've read the book and bought my ticket a month ago. We live in "Cowtown" and are joining friends in Dallas for you and then a dinner. You are welcome to join us!!!! I've always considered you as much a journalist as an academic. I've always considered Anne Applebaum an academic as much as a journalist. Join us as a journalist! You've learned many different languages so that you might better understand. I bet you have never discussed "On Freedom" in a "Texas Drawl!" It is a language unto itself!

“On Freedom” is a great book. I finished it last weekend. It’s one of the few books that I consider worthy of a second read, which I will try to get to one day. I also mention it briefly in my Substack post I published Sunday. You bring a fresh and very insightful perspective to the most important issues that democracies like ours are facing now and have faced historically. Thank you for writing it.

I am halfway through “On Freedom” and I’ll be bringing my copy to Chicago next week. I’m marking the days and very much looking forward to the event at The University Club. I’ll also get to spend a few days with family. My son will be coming with me which is an added bonus. Thank you and safe travels.

It was a busy day today, too busy to read your column. But I found time to buy The Road to Unfreedom and On Freedom, my weekend reading. Thank you for educating us. It is such a damn relief.
