Thank you very much for these talks. Of course, we read all your blog posts (and have read yr books), but it gives a personal connection of solidarity with you to listen to you talk in this informal way, without an interview setting, or lecture format. Thank you for everything you do to promote/protect democracy.
Hi Tim, I know you are Testifying to the many truths we need to hear and listen to. Thank you. I stand in Solidarity. With Nov 5th on our horizon a CT to PA door knocking trip for Kamala and Tim and US came to my attention and I’ve signed up. I realize participation is the best we can do. Post carding is over it’s time to step out of the comfort zone. Best regards
I'm in PA - thank you for coming here to speak with voters and get out the vote! I'm doing that as well here in my state. Turnout will be everything. There are a significant number of Ukrainian-Americans and Polish-Americans who prefer Trump because he's "strong" and will "handle Putin." Hard to fathom.
Thank you for so clearly exposing the fundamental malevolence of this candidate and his enablers. The list is extensive but alas incomplete; one could for instance add Mr Musk's act of treachery by offering then suddenly withdrawing Starlink services to Ukraine.
Trump is a threat but he has had help in Washington. The delay in funding to Ukraine this year had profoundly negative effects on the Ukrainian defense. Congress and the Senate need to be reminded that there are consequences for blocking aid to Ukraine. The Progressive Caucus as well as MAGA representatives delayed and obstructed this aid. Political pressure at the local and national level needs to be exerted by the voters by letters, calls, and social media notes to remind representatives that Ukraine support is vital.
This was terribly disturbing to me, that Congress held up aid to Ukraine and that was mostly coming from Johnson and the House. We can only hope that Harris becomes president and Ukraine will get the help it desperately needs. When I think of children being deported to Russia, never to see their families again, women and children at the hands of sexual predators, the torture of both men and women, and starvation, the destruction of beautiful cities, it sickens me.
NBC Executive explains how they built the myth of DJT, successful businessman:
“In an article in US News and World Report yesterday, NBC’s former chief marketer John D. Miller apologized to America for helping to “create a monster.” Miller led the team that marketed The Apprentice, the reality TV show that made Trump a household name. “To sell the show,” Miller wrote, “we created the narrative that Trump was a super-successful businessman who lived like royalty.” But the truth was that he declared bankruptcy six times, and “[t]he imposing board room where he famously fired contestants was a set, because his real boardroom was too old and shabby for TV,” Miller wrote. While Trump loved the attention the show provided, “more successful CEOs were too busy to get involved in reality TV.”
It is a relief to hear a sane, informed, ethical voice on the heart-rending difficulties that the Ukrainians are facing as a consequence of having people like Putin and Trump in power.
Well, I'm not Ukranian, I'm more than 90% Scot, but I am 99.999% Homo sapiens and as such I deplore what the evil dictator Putin has done. Ukraine is a sovereign nation that made no threats or attacks on Russia, They were and are in the same unfortunate status Iraq was in when we attacked them for no legitimate purpose. We must support Ukraine and do whatever we can to help them rebuild whenever Russia is finally defeated.
This is not comparable to the war in the Middle East where there are no 'good guys' only bad ones and he poor victims - the Palestinian people.
In Ukraine, there is one good guy, Volodomyr Zelenskiy (hope (I spelled that correctly) and one bad guy, Vladimir Putin. So lets back the good guy and the victims, the Ukrainian people who are not responsible for Vladimir Putin's greed
To those who are thinking about voting for Trump: are you comfortable with Trump controlling every facet of government, his plan to enact retribution on all his "enemies" ? His demand for complete loyalty? Would it bother you to be spied upon in every way, with no freedom of speech, absolutely no dissent -even if you are a Trump supporter? Possibly some public executions (maybe firing squad? )of opposing politicians, like Nancy Pelosi or Adam Schiff, or Biden, or Harris - journalism and media muzzled if not jailed?
The changes brought by a Trump regime would be something most of us growing up in the free world have never witnessed. I think Tim's article on "the Strongman Fantasy" brings it home in a personal way, how it impacts every citizen, without being partisan or about any particular strongman.
If you don't like Harris / Walz, at least you can elect someone else in 4 years ! If you vote Trump/Vance/Project 2025, as Trump promises, "you will never have to vote again."
Hugely appreciate the education I have received about Ukraine from Tim.
I do not understand, though, his silence on the slaughter and starvation of children, the bombing of hospitals and schools, in Gaza and now being extended into Lebanon. The atrocities committed by Hamas do not justify the war crimes against Palestinian children.
Since Tim is now in Michigan, he may see first hand that the Biden administration's enabling of these war crimes may throw the election to Donald Trump.
That's not why I am nauseated by our government's continued shipment of 2,000 lb bombs to Netanyahu. I am nauseated by it because of the unfathomable cruelty against children and old people. But I don't understand how a public intellectual like Tim has maintained silence on this issue.
Dr Snyder's ability to marshal this endless quagmire of swirling shit in just a few well chosen sentences is astonishingly good. He cuts through like few others.
I think he's making a significant difference with significant voting Americans.
Hello from Billboards 2024 - Calling Out the Road to Unfreedom
Hello Prof. Snyder,
Since you’re on the road, I thought this might be the best way to reach you. Like your Substack followers, I’ve read many of your books. They resonate.
Until recently, our company’s entire engineering team lived in Belarus. Unfreedom was part of daily life: nighttime knocks on the door; a family member disappearing for days; a neighbor, who put the wrong set of colors in his window, found dead.
Along with a “Company of Friends” from grad school, I am working to do my small part to keep us away from unfreedom. We’ve launched a billboard campaign in swing states targeting active duty military and veterans. You can see the images at billboards2024.org.
One image explicitly calls out unfreedom: “Get out and vote, just this time. It will be fixed.”
We are writing this as a “heads up” - to let you know what we're doing. We’d welcome the opportunity to lock arms with you and your readers. Comments, contributions, and endorsements are all welcome. And yes, you can buy a billboard!
Ned
PS: Wondering why we didn’t get this campaign up sooner? Some people don’t want these messages in public view.
I just checked out your billboards link. I think addressing troops at bases and//or abroad is very important, as I think many are Trump supporters. Thank you for your work.

I hope it's okay to post this - if you want to help turnout in PA from home, wherever you are, you can phone bank to call voters whose mail in ballots have been rejected (not signed, no date, missing secrecy envelope) so they can submit a new ballot and have their vote counted ("ballot curing"). There are hundreds of such mail ballots. https://www.mobilize.us/2024pavictory/event/676131/?rname=Rosalind&share_context=event_details&share_medium=copy_link
Thank you for this link.
Hi Rosalind eating my words. I switched to door knocking in CT Sat & Sun for Jahana Hayes who is in a tight race
Adding an Edit switched from CT to PA and signed up for 2 shifts for Jahana Hayes.
THANK YOU. We need to re-elect Democratic Senator Bob Casey too! He's a mensch and a steadfast supporter of Ukraine who understands the stakes

6 bankruptcies = not a good businessman.

Thank you Dr. Snyder, I knew who trump was in the 80’s. I’ve already voted. Thank you for informing us and for giving us a roadmap.

Are we people of conscience?
Terrifying. Will this nightmare ever end?
Negotiating with Putin is a lost cause, based on Putin's history and Russia's history with negotiations and agreements.
Just so. No "deal" will have any meaning.
thank you, thank you, thank you.
Concise, powerful, very effective.
