Just to let everyone know that we easily crossed the line yesterday — 50k raised in one day for 480k total. So more robots secured and more mines cleared. Thank you!
None of the links to donate/support complete - neither from Safe Terrain nor from United24 - neither from IOS nor Safari browser - have you closed the donation site? Or need I use a different browser/gateway?
I used to work on humanitarian demining for the government. We had a small robotic rover that found mines. The project was very different from "countermine" work. I sent a donation.
I donated. I saw what is still happening in Cambodia, where land mines are still killing farmers, children and livestock, where the world’s greatest population of amputees continues to grow - 50 years after the end of the war in Vietnam.
Done. Also, I'd like to encourage fellow retirees with IRAs to take Qualified Charitable Distributions in early January. I am making sure that the three Ukrainian charities I support, (Thanks Dr Snyder for mentioning Come Back Alive) plus Greenpeace and UNRWA get my contributions before January 21st. Who knows what will happen after that.
With apologies for being a nit picker, you wrote about these machines detonating anti-tank mines; what about anti-personnel mines? Not many farmers, I suspect, will be driving tanks while they farm their land. Is there an effective robotic anti-personnel mine clearing device? If so, I'd prefer funding those.
I have been sending monthly donations to Razom, which you recommended as a worthy humanitarian fund for Ukraine, since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Thanks for all you're doing!
Hi, John. That's a good question; I was wondering about that myself. According to the United24 website:
"Zmiy Ground Demining Complex
Due to its small size, this robotic de-miner is able to work in hard-to-reach areas. Zmiy clears mines with the help of a special chained trawl. It can destroy TM-62 mines, as well as anti-personnel mines such as PMN-2, PMN-4, PFM and mines installed with tripwires, like OZM-72 and MON devices. It works at a safe distance from the operator."

Donated what I could (wish it was more)—thank you for sharing this opportunity to help and for all of your efforts supporting the Ukrainian people.
Just donated $100.

Done - best of luck with the fundraising goal!

Great idea! I'll start thinking about that.
Thank you for informing us of your work on this . It’s an excellent project to donate to . Which I’ll do this morning .
Thank you for letting us know about this opportunity. I was delighted to donate to something so concrete and effective.
Just donated again. Thank you for this, and for everything you have done for Ukraine (and the US).
I contributed. Wish I could do more but every bit helps.
Thanks for your advocacy as always Professor. I just made a small donation. Be safe—as I pray all in Ukraine will be.
