So glad that I watched this lecture again! Even though I have a 40 year old MA in history , it helped me process the competing understandings of the historical processes that understood by some historians to be significant in establishing nationhood. The focus of my studies was US cultural and intellectual history so as far as I can remember I wasn’t exposed to the thinking of historians outside of US-Western European perspectives.
This is a phenomenal course. I have been searching my roots since it ended and I am happy to say my fathers family emigrated from Pidhaysti and some smaller towns nearby. Thank you Professor
I posted a query along these lines earlier, but am still looking for further clarification: I am unclear about the precise definition of "nation" as distinct from "a people".
