It's pretty crazy we have both anti-vaxxers and an opioid epidemic. Like the distrust is there, it's just being misdirected. Also crazy that tons of people lost insurance during a world-wide health emergency (how many deaths did insurance companies avoid paying life insurance claims on, due to people losing coverage?) and we're told our system is about freedom. And lastly, I'm sick of "conservatives" failing to point out that not only is our system too big a portion of our gdp (inefficient) but the fact that we subsidize it with our tax dollars. So we actually do have a socialist-type system of pooled money, except we give it to the rich people. Absolutely absurd, and why people who are being irrational don't "talk politics." Because they're not basing their political decisions on reason and logic. Thank you for the essay and showing us how to be free people.

As an RN for 45 years, I have seen all the examples you discussed. Our medical system is ethically immoral. When practitioners are paid for what they do, they do things, whether needed or not. This conflict has caused a loss of trust in medicine and science. An example of how capitalism devours itself.
