Nothing will. But some of the most evil men end badly. Hitler died miserably in a bunker and his generals wanted to kill him. At this point I feel I have a tiny fist waving in the air. But King Farouk of Egypt, in exile in Italy I believe, ate himself to death. Maybe that will be more accurate.
There is of course little consolation. I know the generals failed. But there is a bit of consolation that these evil people eventually die. If there were no end to it ever ( and it is often that way or it seems that way) there would be no point in going on, yet people like Vaclev Havel, George Washington, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King persisted. Perhaps our species is irredeemable. Then nothing can be accomplished.
You are so right about the heroes who "never gave up". (That's H.H. the Dalai Lama's motto, BTW. He's another great hero.) You got me thinking: at least, generally, not all of the monsters are alive in all of the places at the same time. That's a good thing. (I'm related to von Stauffenberg, one of the generals who left the bomb to kill Hitler. As you know, it tragically failed.)
"Our" generals? Well, we know that the decimation has begun. I believe that the military will become the orange sadist's weapon to be used against us. Unfortunately I can never think of the orange sadist as a buffoon. He's far too dangerous for any word that has a connotation of humor.
He really is not that bright, heтАЩs cunning and cruel. If his father didnтАЩt bail him out heтАЩd be panhandling. He has kind of a Huey Long charisma that makes people believe that he is going to deliver milk and honey. I live in a nice neighborhood in a blue collar town in a blue state. I stumped for Bernie. The people I talked to loved either Bernie or Trump. My Hispanic cleaning ladies told me that Trump was going after the Venezuelan gangs ( while they clutched their papers in fear of ICE), they knew people who voted for Trump because he was going to send a big check and they no longer had to pay taxes. I checked with my accountant who is Hispanic and she said this was true. It will be a while before they realize just how much he lied.
My niece and her boyfriend came for the weekend. Last night I was (somewhat cautiously) talking about the horror of what happened yesterday. The boyfriend said casually, "I don't keep up with politics." It just came out of me, and I said, "You MUST! It's your duty as a CITIZEN!" He looked very startled. And he said, "I wish someone would write a book about why trump is so bad." I said, "Somebody DID write a book, back in 2016, and she lost her job as a professor at the Medical School at Harvard!" And I went and got "The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump" -- along with a dozen other books. He said, "I gotta read this!" He started looking through the other books. My niece was interested in Mary Trump's book, "Too Much and Never Enough". I told them to take them downstairs to their room to read if they wanted to. So they did. Whether or not they actually looked at them, I don't know. But it's possible I gave the boyfriend something to think about. (My niece's father is my brother. He's been a staunch supporter of the orange sadist since 2016. I pretty much cut ties in October.)
I interviewed a young woman this morning to pose for a portrait painting. Lovely young actress who actually knew about the Zelenskyy debacle. That is rare. Most people seem to wear it as a badge of honor that they are uninterested in politics. God forbid they fork over money for a newspaper subscription. But politics will come for them. тАЬJust you wait Mr Higgins, just you wait!тАЭ One of the horrors sneaking around is that major insurance companies are pulling out of markets in not only California and Florida, but the Southeast and places like Iowa, tornado alley. Upstanding citizens are just getting their insurance canceled. No insurance, no mortgage. Food prices will go through the roof. 80% of the food production workers are immigrants and over 40% of those are undocumented. They were hysterical in Massachusetts when the visas for the Haitians were expiring as they made up the majority of the nursing home staff. They are ALL from the National Weather Service. All! Trump is decimating FEMA. The North Carolinians have buyers regret now when they realize Uncle Joe isnтАЩt coming to help. I could go on.
Keep an image of the final days of Mussolini in your mind.
Yes, but the fact that it took such a long, long time, and a more than a million deaths, does not console me.

80,000,000 people died by the time Hitler committed suicide. That's no consolation. (And his generals failed.)

I am wondering where are generals are now. IтАЩm also wondering if this dangerous buffoon will collapse like the Hindenburg or something is afoot.

All those German generals were murdered werenтАЩt they?
