After each lie, one by one, they can stand up and turn their backs to him. Soon, many will be standing and can shout "Stop the Steal" or sing the national anthem... They can hold the floor and interrupt the coronation just like he tried to do on J6. He will be shamed and we know he'll respond badly, despicably.
He will be exposed as the weak pitiful man he is and his party will also be rebuked.
Who can initiate this action? Bernie? AOC? Murphy? Crockett?
Certainly not Schumer or Jeffries who should get the hell out of the way and let the strong people take the lead. If Dems sit meekly by, then capitulation will be complete in the eyes of the world and Dems will have abandoned us again.
Sorry for cross-posting but wanted to reply to your suggestion, Anne. First, I love it! Symbolic gestures DO matter! Let's keep the creative ideas coming, and people will act on the best of them. In that spirit, I suggested the following to Senator Schumer (one of my senators) and a similar one to my NY Representative. I would love to hear people’s thoughts about it! And we certainly don't need to wait to wait for this or that leader, as you say, but some leadership is needed!
Senator Schumer,
With our federal laws and even our Constitution being violated by a rogue President, now is the time for you and your fellow Democrats and Independents (and any Republicans who have the courage) to lead in the resistance. We need a strong statement, one that is symbolic, impactful, AND feasible.
So here is my suggestion: a Liberty Torch relay to Washington, D.C. that passes through villages, towns, cities, and suburbs on its way to D.C. via state capitals, with perhaps a scheduled "arrival" in D.C. on July 4th. There would be a statement on the torch reaffirming commitment to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States, and then there would be a digital mechanism, perhaps using blockchain technology, for Americans to electronically sign their name to that statement. This would enable Americans to sign onto the statement without having to physically attend the relay. And the torch would be not one torch but 435 torches that start in the Congressional districts and make their way to their state capital. If blockchain is used, then with each signature, the blockchain gets longer. As these torches are relayed there would be opportunities for ceremonies to receive and pass on the torch, with marches and caravans along the way.
From each state capital, a caravan of that state's torches would then drive to Washington D.C. An "app" could be set up to enable Americans to track the relay of the torches along with signatures as they came in. PSAs and local and national media would track the spectacle. There would then be a grand Constitutional lighting ceremony in Washington D.C. attended by Congressional and civil leaders to receive the 435 torches where they would be displayed. Each Senator and House Representative, Supreme Court Justice, and the President would then be called on to reaffirm their commitment, per their oath of office, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States by signing a federal version of the torch.
A nonresponse to these historically unprecedented attacks on our Constitution and underlying democratic norms would reinforce these attacks by implicitly accepting them. Our hand is forced. The time for action--to say that this in not normal or acceptable--is now.
Please let me know what you think. I stand ready to help make something like this happen.
I agree with you one hundred percent. I have forwarded your suggestion to my Congresswoman and both of my Senators, and I urge every who reads this to do the same.
Good! Let’s push them to do something there. Not some gathering in front of the cameras outside on the steps making pronouncements. Public action. If people see them lead the way in taking risk I bet it will encourage US to get out there and do the same.
I like this idea. I had an idea the other day regarding the 12 year old at the press podium saying they would pick and choose news outlets; what if no one showed up? Effectively a news media boycott. The admin would wither without the media reporting, especially president Cartman. just a thought
Thanks to the people who like my idea. Consequently it was shot down by Peter Baker on "The Weekend" last Sunday. He said getting all the press to do that would be like herding cats. Even if it did happen all the seats would be refilled by supporters, just like they do at rallies. Oh well.
Now, I had another idea: I am always speaking to the TV when I see good information on, for instance, MSNBC; I am saying "The information you are putting out is like speaking to the choir. These pieces need to be on FOX, etc.
Apparently that cannot or will not be done.
So, the idea is to make a list of all the twitter (or FB) handles of Pulican Senators and Congressional reps. Then take the links from these great Substack pieces and post them on the sites of the people on the list. That way there would be good information in all these feeds that maybe, maybe, might be read. In order to add more of the handles to each post, saving time, one could use one of the shortening services on the links: Tinyurl, Bitly, Short.io, Rebrandly, or Dub. Might work, might not? What say you Peter? ;-)))))))))))
My Rep., Jim McGovern said in a town hall recently, that we should all share our ideas widely because you never know which idea will go viral and be the spark for change and They Need Ideas. So… Keep spreading your ideas around. It inspires everyone else and we’ll just keep showing up everywhere.

Thank you,

Great idea Stephan. That would matter to people and cut through the murk in a more personal way. We are all patriotic when we fight for our country.
I agree with you one hundred percent. I have forwarded your suggestion to my Congresswoman and both of my Senators, and I urge every who reads this to do the same.
Thanks for sending it on. If everyone sent it to 5 people...
Especially after today's fiasco, the Dems are obligated to take a public stand to rebuke them and stand for decency.
If the Dems do stop the joint session, do you think they can be forced to stop once they start? I dont think so.
Yes. They must do Something!
Thank you for suggesting this! I will share your idea widely!

Yes, another good idea! What legacy news outlet would have the guts to do that?

Outstanding idea! EVERYONE MUST CONTACT your MOCs and encourage this kind of protest on Tuesday. The Dems must act and act with force.
