I looked for and found no articles in U.S. mainstream media (NPR, NYT, Atlantic) that commemorated the 76th anniversary of the defeat of Nazism in WWII. Instead, there is a strong focus right now in Republican media on Republican-controlled states banning the teaching of history that includes the facts of slavery and oppression ("critical race theory") in public schools. As we face a wave of anti-democratic, anti-science propaganda we failed to honor the lessons of humanity, human rights, and democracy in favor of neoNazi revisionism that upholds undemocratic and repressive power systems here. I was hoping to see comparisons of QAnon/trump conspiracies compared to Hitler, or comparisons of trump and Stalin's approach to governing and propaganda, or a comparison between the denial of covid deaths to the dismissal of Holocuast deaths as those went on (looking at you, Musk-hosting SNL)... but we got none of that. Instead we have to watch as Republican-controlled legislatures pass voter-suppression laws, continue to call 2020 election into question, and call for the suppression of history that calls into question white superiority or status as savior. Thankfully we have Professor Snyder to help us see the manipulation of history by those in power, for what it is. Thank you for showing us how to be free people, Professor Snyder!

Well said Kristina. I agree with you. How to counter the BS coming from ‘conservative’ I would say fabricated media is the question always first in my mind these days.
