As a NC resident, I feel confident that my state is in contention to turn blue in this upcoming election. The key here is that the Republican candidate for governor, Mark Robinson, is a true nut job whereas the Democratic candidate, Josh Stein, is not only sane, he has done a great job as attorney general. Stay tuned!

Also a NC voter. Michelle Morrow is another for Secy of Ed is as bad as Robinson. There is no way I would ever waste my vote on any Republican on that ticket. I really wish we could retake the god-awful legislature. Democrats have really got to start running solid candidates from the ground up. There is nothing worse than seeing an unopposed republican seat on the ballot.

PS. I’m also actively donating to Jeff Jackson for Attorney General. He’s the one term Democratic Representative that the legislature rejiggered his Charlotte district so he wouldn’t stand a chance for reelection this year. He ran a wonderful campaign by visiting all 100 counties(went, took friends and met him. Have been a supporter ever since even though he didn’t represent my district). When he saw which way the wind was going to be blowing this year he decided to run for AG for NC. How wonderful if the Harris/Walz coattails would be long enough to pull all of our ticket into office to start to break the right wing chokehold in Raleigh.

This was a perfect message for Labor Day thoughts and action. The elections are very soon. Communicating with one another could not be more important. Listening and sharing are always vital. Thank you, Timothy Snyder, for bringing us together as you do.

Donated. Thank you for sharing practical, efficient, and effective ways to help the right groups on the ground doing needed work. I live in Missouri and work full time so donating is the best way for me to help at this time. Thank you for your service to Democracy.

I can’t wait for your new book!! Just a few more weeks!

Annie: I’m in Missouri too—we will be voting on raising the minimum wage on our November ballot. Not sure if you know about Missouri Jobs With Justice? They are a legitimate nonprofit organization that actively promotes, supports, and advocates for the working people (especially the poor) here in MO.

I appreciate all the information that Dr. Snyder shares RE important places like the situation in Arizona (swing state = priority), but we here in MO have NOT been a priority by the Democrats and it will not change unless we get rid of the supermajority in our legislature. Missouri Jobs With Justice is working hard for workers here because this really is a nonpartisan issue. Please check out their website and consider supporting them? Thank you for supporting good work like Dr. Snyder’s, too🗽

Thank you. I have been following Jess Piper (piper4missouri) who calls herself a dirt road democrat. She is terrific and inspired me to give monthly to Blue Missouri. I will check out Missouri Jobs With Justice.

My good friend Tony (We met when I was in 10th grade and he was in 9th), who's been living in Paris with his husband for more than 35 years, has long been active in Vote From Abroad (https://www.votefromabroad.org/). There are about 6.5 million Americans living abroad who are eligible to vote, and he has been--as usual--working on getting as many Americans registered to vote as possible. I can't see a donation button at their website, but if anyone out there knows Americans living abroad--anywhere in the world--you might direct them to Vote From Abroad because they'll tell them everything they need to know about getting registered and voting. VFA knows the laws of each state, so they'll be able to answer all questions.

That's a good one Rose. It was promoted on the Swifties for Harris call a few days ago.

Joyce Vance promoted vote from abroad too…important as some new voters think their local absentee ballot allows them to vote from abroad. I haven’t checked with my local county registrar but I believe each state has different rules

Important to pass along vote from abroad link!

Thanks for this recommendation, Timothy. I can’t be there in person but I always like to donate to organisations that are doing good work on the ground. I’m not terribly mobile, so my other effort is to write 600 postcards to Arizona voters.

WooHoo - so glad to hear you say that you think Ohio may very well be a swing state this year. I so hope so. We have a very strong, well-organized progressive base here - I will skip any negative comments here - thank you, Professor Snyder.

I have been supporting Worker Power for 8 years. There is something else people should know about this amazing group. They sent 200 experienced, Spanish-speaking canvassers to Georgia over the Christmas holidays (remember the runoff was in early January 2021) to help elect Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Imagine all these people telling their families they won't be around for the holidays.

A wonderful suggestion, thank you. And yes, an ideal suggestion for Labor Day. I keep telling myself, I've got to stop making donations! But I'm making a donation to Worker Power today. I also believe Gallego's strong showing will make us more competitive there.

I'm so encouraged to hear that you believe Ohio and Florida are in contention. I've been thinking about these states since I heard the editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer online talking about how disliked JD is in his home state- far more unpopular even than in the rest of the country. And since I saw those photos of golf carts for Kamala on parade in The Villages, a bastion of Trumpery.

As a mid-westerner who went to Catholic schools, I do think Tim Walz makes it easier for the husbands of my high school friends to vote Dem this year. He's their kind of guy. Plus their wives, who I know voted for Trump in 2016, are now hounding their husbands about how terrible he is- as are their children and grandchildren. This bodes well for MI, WI, OH, and PA. As well as FL, where many of them live now.

Thank you Timothy Snyder for all you do and for keeping hope alive through some anxious times.

Thank you for offering those of us in Blue States (I'm in MA) a way to help. I can't physically canvass anymore (although I had an amazing experience ringing doorbells in NH for Obama). The personal interaction is powerful especially for those who don't feel "seen". Let's not leave anyone out if possible!!
