I have been following what is going on with Navalny. I am glad you shared the information that you have on him. I hope he survives. There’s a feeling among people here that he was a fool to go back to Russia after he was poisoned. Not many people would go back. I think he cares about Russia and is willing to die for it.
I have been looking forward to you writing about Navalny. I am in AWE of this man! The photo of his children deepens my heartfelt amazement for who he is even more. When I watched the video of his FSB call it was surreal in the moment and now your description further helps me to understand how surreal it actually was. I am new to following topics such as these but in my novice expression for who Alexei Navalny is, I feel moved to describe him as being a real-life moral superhero. I am not one who takes much interest in superhero stories but I have yet to learn how else to describe this magnificent and selfless human.
Being that this is my first posting, I would like to also acknowledge Prof. Timothy Snyder for having such a significant influence in the new direction that I am taking my life. Your work and your voice in the world is so very important and has inspired me to greatly shift more of my time and attention to these very important conversations. I not only shifted my attention, but I decided to become a mid-life college student and I am loving it! I have yet to decide which specific degree/career path to commit to. These past few years I have increasingly found that I am drawn to learning more about the past to support creating a better future for all on our planet, and exploring a variety of ways to creatively contribute to making a difference in the world. I guess that may sound somewhat cliché but the idea of doing that through Humanities and Social Sciences is very exciting and a very new concept to me.
Thank you Prof. T.S. for wanting to make the world a more compassionate and intellectual existence for all and thank you for every ounce of humanity and courage that exists behind the work that you do.
I couldn't but subscribe... However, many of the stories break my heart. Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary, the US... But we have only one life and it calls on us.
Thank-you Professor for this way of approaching an Iranian friend’s concern that Navalny’s historical anti-emigration/Islamaphobe leanings make him no better than Putin’s administration!
