Many thanks, Dr. Snyder.

Our own country's current leadership, astonishingly, has abandoned our European allies -- especially Ukraine. That is the exhaustion I'm feeling, because that's not who we are, not who we've been in the post-WWII era.

There is nothing astonishing to me about Trump and his MAGA crowd abandoning anyone. They are not even real emotional adults. One cannot have adult expectations of them.

As you've noted, the financial and materiel support we could provide to the Ukrainian defenders of freedom would be trivial (even in the obscene recently-passed budget). Instead the resources are expended on maneurvers that inhibit democracy within the United States itself. On one hand are the massive funding for federal police forces (not the necessary local police) and misuse of the National Guard and on the other hand is the absurd rebranding of the Department of Defense as the Department of War. As has been pointed out by you and others, these resources would help preserve Ukrainian sovereignty and democracy world-wide but especially in Europe.

On this twenty-fourth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that changed our world forever we lost thousands of innocent civilians. The casualties enumerated by Professor Snyder highlight a stark perspective that we, the American people, do not have. The Greatest Generation is departing and we of the Baby Boom generation and later may not appreciate the history of the Second World War. Every day the people of Ukraine are shedding their blood for us all. Our support to Ukraine is not even 'boots on the ground.' We can do better. In future times let us not look back with shame and regret. Let us instead support them and be proud of our democratic Republic and the Constitution that is its framework.

Slava Ukraini!

I also want to extend a hand of gratitude for both your service and your books, which I am consuming about one a week. This conversation you have with us today is a reminder that we Americans are not the only people on Earth who are fighting for our freedom, lest we become unfreedom subjects. So please be careful and tell the Ukrainians that we here in the USA are spiritually and physically behind their struggle to be as free as we are (if we can say that without being afraid of our authoritarian background at work).

Very clear explanations. Thank you. We aren’t there to experience it fully as you can, which is less of course than Ukrainians do, but it is very helpful. I will call my senators and new rep in VA 11 to remind them … again.

And some of us have trouble with our sight and appreciate his audio offerings, and in fact find that the only way we can get his message. Transcripts are nice (and in fact as Karen has pointed out, do exist) but we wouldn't want him to stop giving audio readings because he thought everyone preferred the written message. His written messages are much more frequent than his audio offerings.

It is painful to see Timothy Snyder also seeming close to exhaustion and perhaps despair.

This commentary from Sky News by the British defence analyst Professor Michael Clarke is also worth watching. He has been providing analysis for Sky since the beginning of the invasion in 2022.
