Note to subscribers: coming attractions
New podcasts, next live discussion, and Ukraine lectures to come
Dear Subscribers,
It's been a busy time, as I have tried to share some of my thoughts about the meaning of this year of war.Â
I have fallen behind on something that I owe paid subscribers, which is the audio (podcast) version of my essays. In the next two weeks, I will be posting eight podcasts of some of the most pertinent recent texts about the war and about U.S. politics, including
How does the Russo-Ukrainian War End?
Why the World Needs Ukrainian Victory?
Nuclear War! Why it Isn't Happening
The Specter of 2016 (Spy Scandal, Part 1)
The Trauma of 2016 (Spy Scandal, Part 2)
Life as a Lie: Trump, Santos, and Putin
and
As I read these essays, I will also add reflections that I have had since the time of writing, so there is often a bit of new content in these podcasts, or at least some spontaneous me. If you are not a paid subscriber, and would like access to these podcasts (as well as to the full archive of the Thinking about... newsletter) please consider upgrading your subscription.
I also owe subscribers a live discussion of contemporary events. The next one will take place on Friday, 3 March, 11:00am eastern standard time. If you are a paid subscriber, you will get an email with the link not long before the event. Again, if you are an unpaid subscriber, and would like to join these discussions, please upgrade.
Tomorrow, Friday the 24th, it will have been a year since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As this second year of war begins, I will be releasing the lectures of my open Yale class on Ukrainian history, two lectures over each weekend for ten weeks, this time with a note (here on Substack) including brief summary of the themes of each lecture, the reading that was assigned for each lecture, and a list of terms I use in the lecture. These lectures on Ukrainian history are already available free of charge on a number of platforms and they will be available, in this curated form, to paid and unpaid subscribers here.
Thanks for being with me in all this.
