THANK YOU, Timothy Snyder, for what you are doing. I can't afford to give, at this time, but I give monthly to 2 Ukrainian organizations, who are also helping Ukraine survive. THANK YOU.

Professor Snyder, you do so much to help Ukraine, its citizens and to advocate for freedom around the world. Thank you for your leadership and for again giving us the opportunity to make a difference. Donated. Слава Україні!,

I feel very badly for the good Ukrainians who are old like me and had lived under Russian rule for so long. Part of my heart is with them when I say to myself just give in- accept defeat. Stop this crazy war. But be patient I say to myself. Yes, Stop the killing. But then I think of Ukrainian young people- young people who would then face decades of unfreedom. Then I think of the meaning of victory over Russia and what that would mean to Russians. I think of Navalny and his sacrifices. The Russians who have lived under tyranny it seems forever. The loss of Russian participation in world progress. Then of course I circle back and think. Here am I - a Russian American who has been fighting for freedom since 1965. Here I am now in my 70’s demonstrating for keeping our US constitution alive. I would sacrifice everything for my child and for all children facing tyranny. This war is also about sending a message to the 143 million people in Russia who have not been allowed to think for themselves for a very very time. Like the Russian oligarchs who have squeezed their people our new set of US oligarchs here threaten to destabilize the world. Who needs a trillion dollars?

You're quite right, Mimi. No one needs a trillion dollars. That is obscene. I have been reading Anne Applebaum's, Autocracy, Inc. It is breathtaking, this small book, in its immense scope of autocracy around the world. People getting wealthy all over the world, and not only dictators. Elon Musk is a trillionaire. So what. He has all that money and no humanity whatsoever. If he did, he would do something about people who are food insecure in the United States. People who are not eating right here in the richest country in the world, so they may give that food to their children. He has the money to do so much good in the world but will he? There's no proof that he will. I am visiting my daughter and her family in Germany. There is a woman a few houses away that I have come to know the past few years. She is Russian, but gave up her Russian citizenship a few years ago and must see her parents outside of Russia when they meet. Fortunately for me, she speaks English and we go on walks together. It's very interesting to hear her perspective.

I visited my cousin in Prague. He lives in Kiev. At nearly 80 this war is so so hard.

Joanna Denis's avatar

I have no doubt how hard it is, especially for someone who has seen so much in his lifetime.

Thank you for your work and your witness

Joanna Denis's avatar

Yes, bearing witness is so incredibly important. Thank you for this, Simon.

I just gave, wish I could do more but I'm now 85. Thank you for reminding us about Ukraine as it's been forgotten in our newspapers.

Dr Snyder: We were proud to contribute at your first call for jamming technology. Just so that you're aware, Ukrainian Trust-Chain is a remarkable legion of volunteers in the Ukraine that serves civilians in the most desperate situations with food, medicine, supplies, and transport out of danger. We contribute to UTC monthly and shudder when we read the UTC newsletter.

We just donated again. Thank you

Is there a way to donate with a written check? Can't find address for that. Funding source requires that. Thank you. p.s. Sad that we seem not to be able to get an answer to this question which means missed opportunities to help, perhaps quite significantly.

Hank Greenspan's avatar

Sorry to reiterate, but I am associated with a foundation that would contribute substantially if there was a way to do it via written check. Need relevant address. Thank you.

Prof. Snyder, I somehow missed the recent call to action. I am happy to contribute. The Ukrainian soldiers are incredible people and so clever and inventive in fighting this war. I have been giving to United24 but will find the link and donate. Thank you for raising money for this very noble cause.

Thanks for the link. I try to save back some of my monthly Ukraine donations because you always come up with something. You are a true friend to Ukraine.

Thank you Professor Snyder for all your efforts on behalf of Ukraine. This sounds like a promising and worthy plan. Since it’s in its very beginning stages, I would like to know how effective the execution of the plan turns out to be before donating. I hope there will be reporting on this. There are so many requests for donations, including from political groups and candidates here in the USA, I feel information on results is important.
